Talking Pictures 1st Invitational

An exhibition inspired by an all-but-lost-to-oblivion interview between Brooklyn painter Jeffrey Bishop and the always incisive and insightful Susan Sontag, an exchange that took place on a distant coast several decades ago. Thanks to some shared anecdotes and casual networking, the interview recently resurfaced on Cathy Quinlan's art blog, Talking Pictures, since certain aspects of it pertain directly to art. Not long thereafter, that post led to the kernel of an idea to build a show out of the interview.

And that's how the Talking Pictures 1st Invitational came about.

Featured artists: Michele Araujo, Meg Atkinson, John Descarfino, Charles Luce, Brent Ridge, Fred Valentine, Charles Yuen, Jim Donahue, Marcy Rosenblat, Bob Seng, Cecilia Whittaker-Doe and Jeffrey Bishop.

Co-curated by Cathy Quinlan, Paul D'Agostino and Jeffrey Bishop.

You can read the interview and more about the show at www.talkingpicturesblog.com.
